Björn och Benny
The core songwriter/producer team of ABBA, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, first met each other in the summer of 1966. Within weeks of that initial meeting they had written their first song together.
By 1970, they were releasing records as a duo on Polar, scoring a big hit with Hej gamle man! (Hey Old Man!). The backing vocalists on the song? Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad, marking the first time all four ABBA members recorded together, two years before ABBA was formed. The track was also included on the Björn & Benny duo’s first and only album, Lycka (Happiness).
As house producers at Polar from 1971, Björn and Benny were an important part of Polar’s success in the early 1970s, also scoring further hits as a duo. By 1972, ABBA began recording together and the rest is history.
